Tricia Miller, Licensed Acupuncturist and Physical Therapist is the owner of Serenity Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Initially trained in Scotland in 1991, she developed her interest in acupuncture and alternative or complementary medicine working for Jan De Vries at Auchenkyle in Troon, Scotland.
She worked for Mr. De Vries, a family friend, growing up in Scotland and continued during her University years when she attended Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1993 she earned her Bachelors of Science (Honors) degree in Physical Therapy from Queen Margaret, then worked in a variety of clinical settings for the National Health Service in Scotland.
In the early 1990s the US medical market had a shortage of experienced Physical Therapists and Tricia was recruited to the USA in which she has worked as therapist and management capacity in hospitals both locally and out of state.
During this time she saw some patients that may have been better served by Traditional Chinese Medicine, especially those with Bells Palsy or painful disorders such as arthritis. This reawakened her desire to treat patients with acupuncture as well as other adjunctive therapies and modalities.
Fortunately Chicago is home to the oldest US Traditional Chinese Medicine School, Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. From Midwest, Tricia earned her Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine in 2002, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Additionally, the Guangzhou University School of Traditional Chinese Medicine awarded her an advanced certification in acupuncture and moxibustion following an internship at the University in Guangzhou, China.
Tricia is a board member and acting secretary for the Illinois Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and member of the American Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association. Additionally, she is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Tricia is board certified and licensed to practice acupuncture in Illinois, New York, Florida, and Hawaii and is also a board certified physical therapist in Illinois and the United States Virgin Islands
